Sanjay Nirupam is an Indian politician from Maharashtra.
Sanjay Nirupam, born on February 6, 1965, in Rohtas, is a prominent figure in Indian politics and journalism. Graduating with a B.A.(Hons) Political Science Degree from A. N. College, Patna, Magadh University in 1984, he ventured into journalism, starting as a Sub-Editor at Panch Janya and eventually becoming the Executive Editor of 'Dopahar ka Saamna.' He also worked with 'Jan Satta' in the past.
Nirupam's political journey began when he joined the Indian National Congress. He represented the Mumbai-North constituency in the 15th Lok Sabha and served as the President of the Mumbai Regional Congress Committee. Prior to his tenure with the Congress, he held two terms in the Rajya Sabha, first as a member of the Shiv Sena and later from the Congress Party.
However, his political career faced a setback in April 2024 when the Congress party decided to remove him for six years due to reports of misconduct and statements against the party's interests, particularly during discussions regarding seat-sharing with the ally, Shiv Sena (UBT).
Beyond politics, Nirupam has been actively involved in various social and cultural initiatives in Mumbai. He has organised annual events such as wrestling championships and mass-level festival celebrations like Ganesotsava, dahi handi, and chhath puja at Juhu Beach.
Additionally, he has spearheaded initiatives such as medical camps and social and cultural issue-based seminars, aiming to foster unity among different linguistic communities and uplift the underprivileged, particularly those residing in Mumbai's slums. He has prioritised addressing key issues such as housing, health, education, transportation, and infrastructure across all strata of society.
Aside from his political and social endeavours, Nirupam has a passion for writing poems and articles on current topics. He also enjoys reading, travelling, watching movies, and football matches. Notably, he has played a pivotal role as the President of the Mumbai Sub-Urban Wrestling Association.
In terms of finances, Nirupam's net worth stands at Rs 12,20,93,505. He married Geeta Nirupam on October 10, 1989, and the couple has one daughter.
