Naba Kumar Saraniya alias Heera Saraniya is an active politician who is currently a Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha. He belongs to Dighalipaar village in Tamulpur of Baksa district in Assam. He is representing the Kokrajhar constituency in Assam from 2014 and won as an Independent Candidate in Lok Sabha elections 2014. He won by the highest margin ever recorded in polls in Assam and as an independent candidate in the history of Lok Sabha elections. Previously he was the commander of ULFA. In 2011 he initiated the peace and lateral talks with the Union Government. After that, he quit the outfit and came in politics.

Before joining politics Naba Kumar Saraniya joined the extremists' outfit United Liberation Front Assam in 1990. He worked as a commander of the 709 battalion of ULFA. During that period he was said to be one of the most dreaded militants in Assam. It is known that Saraniya used to wear at least 20 Kg of deadly explosive while roaming in jungles. The reason was if someone dares to shoot him from 200-300 meters range then he/she would be killed in the blast. In 2012, Saraniya was arrested by Guwahati city police. He fought for his dream of Independent Assam for around 20 years. He was charged with Robbery, Kidnap and Murder cases. His father Late Khanta Saraniya was in Indian Army.
He became a Member of Consultative Committee under the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region.
He was elected to 16th Lok Sabha during the general elections of 2014 as an Independent candidate. Saraniya got 634428 votes beating his competitor Urkhao Gwra Brahma (278649 votes) and Assam State Transport Minister Chandan Brahma (243759 votes).
He became a member of Committee on Absence of Members from the Sittings of the House and the Member of Standing Committee on Labour.
