Sandhya Ray comes from Kamra, a village of Morena district, Madhya Pradesh. She is the daughter of Sabharam Tainguriya and Ram Katori Bai Tainguriya. She holds the Master of Arts degree from Jiwaji University and the Bachelor of Laws degree from Government State Level Law College, Bhopal. Besides being a professionally trained advocate, she also has a background in agriculture.
Her public career started from the lowest rung of the ladder of the political structure when she was elected the president of the local farmer market in Ambah in 2000. She ventured into the world of state politics in 2003 and won the Dimani Assembly seat; thus, she became a member of the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly for one term.
She was later involved in social and organisational activities like working with the Madhya Pradesh State Women’s Commission, among others. Her rise to a prominent position in national politics was marked by a single event in the year 2019, when she ran for the Lok Sabha seat from Bhind and won, thus becoming the first woman to achieve that feat in the constituency.
She remained active in parliamentary committees and was consistent in her appeal for the implementation of social justice, betterment of women and upliftment of villages. In the 2024 general election, she was successful in making a comeback to the Bhind seat, this time with a large majority, thus, she held the power of being the main voice of the people from the region.
