Narain Dass Gupta Biography

Narain Dass Gupta is a chartered accountant and a former president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). As President of the ICAI, he was instrumental in the introduction of various accounting standards which were finally notified by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs.

He is well-known for his knowledge of financial policies and has written many books about taxes. One of them is "Indian Accounting Standards IFRS, US GAAP Comparison, 2005."

He served as Chairperson of the group established by the Reserve Bank of India to pinpoint gaps and oversee the implementation of accounting standards by banks in India, additionally, he crafted an Accounting Manual tailored for municipalities in India, emphasising the accrual basis of accounting.

Furthermore, people from different political groups see him as India's top expert on Goods & Services Tax (GST).

He is a thorough professional, an educationist, a social worker and a successful administrator. Therefore, he was elected to the Rajya Sabha from Delhi on 8 January 2018. He is the Chairperson of the Committee on Information and Communication Technology Management in Rajya Sabha.

Additionally, he serves as a Member of the Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Cooperation. Furthermore, he is honoured to be a Member of the Joint Committee on Salaries and Allowances of Members of Parliament.

Apart from this, he is working for the upliftment of economically weaker sections, promotion of Indian heritage and culture, and religious rituals, but this isn't tied to a specific designation or time frame.

He is a son Naveen Gupta who is also a chartered accountant and the former vice-president of ICAI. He has passed his CA examinations with distinction proving that the profession is in his veins.

His simplicity is reflected in his morning walk, doing yoga, practising physiotherapy, going swimming and watching and attending sports meets.
