M.M. Mani Biography

M.‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ M. Mani is a senior leader of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) from Kerala. He has a political career largely based on grassroots organisation and trade union work. Brought up as Mundakkakkal Madhavan Mani, he entered left politics quite early in his life and slowly but surely he became the most dominant organiser in the Idukki region, largely among plantation workers and village dwellers.

He brought such results with his work in the organisation of the CPI(M) that he was handed over the most important responsibilities at the district level. Among others, he retained the office of Secretary of the party’s Idukki District Committee from 1985. During his association, he was the one who led the cadre-based mobilisation in the high-range areas of Kerala to make the party’s presence felt there.

Mani left an indelible mark on the politics of Kerala as he got into the arms of its Legislative Assembly in 2016, winning the Udumbanchola constituency. Parallel to his legislative duties, he held the office of Minister for Electricity in the Kerala government. So, his stint in the cabinet not only enlivened the power sector story but also added to his long organisational skillset and executive exposure.

In 2021, he won a consecutive term from Udumbanchola. M. M. Mani, as of 2025, is still going on with his legislative and constituency duties and attending party meetings, as he is now a seasoned politician who qualifies for the CPI(M) top brass with decades of experience to his ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌credit.
