Roshy Augustine

Roshy Augustine was born on 20 January 1969 in Pala, Kerala, to Shri Augustine and Smt. Leelamma Augustine. He completed a B.Sc in Physics and went on to study LL.B (course completed). Augustine entered politics early through the Edakkoli Government High School Parliament and later held leadership roles in the Kerala Students Congress (M), including college unit president, state general secretary, and president, before rising to party leadership roles.

He first won election to the Kerala Legislative Assembly from Idukki in 2001, and has been re-elected continuously since then (2006, 2011, 2016, and 2021), demonstrating enduring electoral support in his constituency. Throughout his legislative career, Augustine has engaged with development issues affecting hill districts and cooperative institutions.

On 20 May 2021, Augustine was inducted into the Kerala state cabinet as Minister for Water Resources in Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s government, overseeing irrigation, groundwater development, water supply, and sanitation. He has also been involved in broader policy discussions within the Left Democratic Front and has publicly addressed coalition and alliance issues during political developments through 2025 and 2026.

As of 2026, Augustine continues to serve as MLA from Idukki and Minister for Water Resources, focusing on sustainable water management, irrigation infrastructure, and related developmental priorities in Kerala.
