A. N. Shamseer

Indian Politician A. N. Shamseer was born in Thalassery in 1977, to Seaman Komath Usman and AN Serena of Thalassery, Kerala. He graduated from Brennan College with a degree in Philosophy and a postgraduate degree from Kannur University, Palayad Campus. PG was in anthropology. He obtained LLB and LLM from Palayad School of Legal Studies. He made his political entry through student movements.

Shamseer contested the elections for the first time in 2014 from the Vadakara Parliamentary constituency. he contested against Congress senior leader Mullappally Ramachandran but lost. It was in 2016 that he contested for the first time in the assembly election from Thalassery.

During​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌ his first term from 2016 to 2021, Shamseer was very much involved in the debates of the Assembly and other legislative work, which helped him build a strong profile as a disciplined party legislator. The performance he gave was the reason for the trust in him to be kept, both by the party and the legislature.

In 2021, he got the mandate from the people once more and was elected as MLA of Thalassery. The same year, he was chosen as the Speaker of the Kerala Legislative Assembly; hence, he took charge of leading the Assembly sessions, ensuring the order of the legislature and regulating parliamentary procedures.

Up to 2025, A. N. Shamseer is holding the position of the Speaker of the Kerala Legislative Assembly, being the core person in the legislative operations, at the same time, he is representing his constituency and being active in the CPI(M) ​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌party.

CPM fielded Shamseeer after Kotiyeri Balakrishnan, who had won from Thalassery five times, became the state secretary. Former Congress leader AP Abdullakutty was the opposition candidate. he secured a record majority of 34,117 votes against Abdullakutty. Shamsir got 70741 votes while Abdullakutty got 36624 votes.

He is the first chairman of Kannur University Union. He has also served as SFI District Secretary, President, State Secretary, All India Joint Secretary, DYFI District President, Thalassery Co-operative Hospital President, and founding secretary of Adv. OV Abdullah Trust, Thalassery.
