A social worker for a long span of his life, Krishna Kapil Thakur contested and won the Bongaon North seat in the 16th LokSabha Elections with an TMC ticket in 2014. However, his tenure as the Trinamool Congress Lok Sabha MP lasted a short spell due to his sudden demise in October 2014. Thakur was the leader of the Matua community. The community plays a deciding role in polls in Bongaon.
