Kalipada Soren, better known as Kherwal Soren, has been selected by the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) to contest from the Jhargram constituency in the 18th Lok Sabha election.
Though this is his first time contesting an election, Kalipada Soren's political career began earlier. He initially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2019 and then switched to the Trinamool Congress a year later. Despite his affiliations with different political parties, he never held an active political position until now.
Kalipada Soren is also a renowned poet in the Santali language, which is one of India’s 22 scheduled languages and the official language of West Bengal. His poetry is celebrated for its expressive use of words to convey social themes.
His passion for writing led him to leave his job at a bank in the city and return to his village to focus on his literary work.
