Govind Arun Ahuja, popularly known as Govinda, was born on December 21, 1963, to Arun Kumar Ahuja and Nirmala Devi Ahuja. His father, Arun Kumar Ahuja, was a notable actor and film producer, while his mother, Nirmala Devi Ahuja, was a renowned vocalist and actress in Bollywood. Govinda was the youngest among his five siblings, earning him the affectionate nickname 'Chi-Chi,' which translates to 'little finger' in Punjabi.

After completing his Bachelor of Commerce degree from Annasaheb Vartak College, Vasai, Govinda initially pursued employment opportunities but faced challenges securing a satisfactory job. Encouraged by his father, he turned towards Bollywood, inspired particularly after watching Mithun Chakraborty's film, 'Disco Dancer.'

Govinda embarked on his acting journey by auditioning for various roles, ultimately landing his debut in the film 'Ilzaam' in 1986, where he shared the screen with Bollywood legends like Shashi Kapoor and Shatrughan Sinha. His breakthrough as a lead actor came with "Tan-Badan" the same year, followed by instant fame with "Love 86."

Renowned for his comedic prowess and remarkable dancing skills, Govinda's career spanned over 120 films, featuring collaborations with industry stalwarts such as Amitabh Bachchan, Dilip Kumar, Akshay Kumar, Aishwarya Rai, Salman Khan, and Madhuri Dixit. Notably, his partnership with director David Dhawan resulted in numerous successful comedy films, establishing Govinda as a prominent figure in Bollywood.

In a bold departure from his comedic roles, Govinda garnered critical acclaim for his portrayal of a villain in the movie 'Shikari.' Despite facing a downturn between 2002 and 2005, Govinda staged an extraordinary comeback with hits like 'Bhagam Bhag' (2006) and 'Salaam-E-Ishq' (2007), culminating in the blockbuster success of 'Partner.'

On the personal front, Govinda married Sunita Ahuja on March 11, 1987, keeping their marriage a secret for four years. The couple has two children, Tina Ahuja, who followed in her father's footsteps as an actress, and Yashvardhan Ahuja, poised to make his Bollywood debut.

With assets exceeding 150 crores, Govinda is a prominent figure in the Indian film industry, commanding fees of 5-6 crores per movie and 1-2 crores for brand endorsements. He resides with his family in luxurious properties in Juhu and Madh Island, boasting an impressive collection of high-end cars and bikes, including Mercedes, BMW, and Ducati.

The time period of his political work ended for him after he spent two years in Parliament before he departed his political career to return to films during his first political term, which finished with his Lok Sabha term.

Govinda returned to politics in March 2024 after he had spent a long time away from politics when he joined the Shiv Sena, which Eknath Shinde leads, and he later participated in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections as a star campaigner and cultural ambassador.

As of 2026, Govinda maintains his political work with the Shiv Sena, which follows the Shinde faction, while he continues to work as a public figure in both entertainment and politics.
