Dinesh Pratap Singh Biography

Dinesh Pratap Singh embarked on his political journey aligned with the Congress party. His initial foray into politics commenced in 2010 when he assumed the role of Member of the Legislative Council (MLC), marking the inception of his political career. Singh secured a re-election in 2016.

Recognised for his close ties with prominent Congress party figures like Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi, Singh's trajectory within the Congress Party took a tumultuous turn in 2017. Following allegations of misconduct towards the general secretary of the Rae Bareli Congress committee and other local party leaders, Singh faced an indefinite suspension from the primary membership of the Congress party. The suspension notice, issued by Rae Bareli District Congress Committee president VK Shukla, cited instances of assault and accusations of orchestrating actions against party members.

However, disillusionment with the party's leadership prompted Singh and his brother Rakesh to resign from the grand-old party, citing indifference towards grassroots leaders. Subsequently, in 2018, Singh along with his brother transitioned to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), seeking a new political affiliation.

In the 2019 general elections, Singh contested the electoral battle for the Rae Bareli Lok Sabha seat, ultimately losing to Sonia Gandhi but making history by securing the highest number of votes ever received by a BJP candidate in the constituency.

Singh's remarkable performance in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections caught the attention of the BJP leadership, leading to his nomination to the legislative council. He was appointed as Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Horticulture, Agriculture Marketing, Agriculture Foreign Trade, and Agriculture Export in Uttar Pradesh.

Continuing his political journey, Singh clinched victory in the 2022 MLC elections on the BJP ticket, securing record-breaking votes. Presently, he stands as a formidable contender for the Rae Bareli Lok Sabha seat, representing the BJP against Congress' Rahul Gandhi.
