Dilip Ghosh

Dilip Ghosh was born on 1 August 1964 in the Paschim Medinipur district of West Bengal. He began his public life as a volunteer of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh in 1984, where he worked as a full-time pracharak and gained extensive experience in grassroots organisational activities across different regions. His early ideological training and organisational exposure played a crucial role in shaping his disciplined political approach.

He formally entered electoral politics through the Bharatiya Janata Party and rose quickly within the party ranks. In 2015, he was appointed President of the BJP West Bengal, a significant phase during which the party began expanding its organisational base and electoral presence in the state. His leadership contributed to transforming the BJP from a marginal force into a major political contender in West Bengal.

In the 2016 West Bengal Assembly elections, he contested from Kharagpur Sadar and won, defeating a long-time Congress leader and becoming one of the BJP’s early legislative successes in the state. This victory marked a turning point in the BJP’s state-level electoral journey and established him as a key face of the party in West Bengal politics.

In 2019, he was elected as a Member of Parliament from Medinipur, further strengthening his political stature at the national level. His parliamentary victory, achieved with a significant margin, reflected the BJP’s growing support base in the region and his personal political influence.

Over the years, he has remained an influential and often outspoken leader, actively involved in party campaigns and organisational strategies. His tenure as state president coincided with the BJP’s strongest electoral performance in West Bengal, especially during the 2019 general elections, where the party significantly increased its seat share.

In the run-up to the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, he has been fielded once again from the Kharagpur Sadar constituency, marking his return to a seat he previously won. His candidature reflects the BJP’s reliance on experienced leadership in key constituencies during a crucial electoral contest.

He continues to remain a key political figure in West Bengal with both organisational depth and electoral experience. As of April 2026, he is contesting in the West Bengal Assembly elections from the Kharagpur Sadar constituency, continuing his electoral presence in the state.
