D. Sudhakar was born on September 17, 1969, in Karnataka. He pursued a medical degree (MBBS) and established himself as a medical professional before entering public life, bringing administrative and healthcare experience into his political career.
He entered electoral politics as a member of the Indian National Congress and was elected as MLA from the Chintamani constituency in 2013. He was re-elected in 2018, consolidating his position in regional politics.
In 2019, he resigned from Congress and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party, playing a role in the political realignment that led to the fall of the coalition government in Karnataka. He was subsequently re-elected in the by-election from Chintamani and was inducted as Minister for Medical Education, later also handling the Health portfolio.
During his tenure as Health Minister, he played a key role in managing public health initiatives, particularly during the COVID-19 period, overseeing healthcare infrastructure and pandemic response measures in the state.
Ahead of the 2023 Karnataka Assembly elections, he rejoined the Indian National Congress and was re-elected as MLA from Chintamani, marking another significant shift in his political career.
