K.‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ Anbazhagan was a long-time veteran politician from India, Tamil Nadu, and among the top-most powerful leaders of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. He has been a Member of the Rajya Sabha and has held major ministerial portfolios in the Tamil Nadu government, most notably the Finance portfolio.

He was ideologically strong, possessed a great deal of administrative insight, and, due to his long association with the Dravidian movement, was the primary person who helped the organization influence policy and decide on party strategy during his tenure.

K.‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ Anbazhagan was a senior DMK leader who was ideologically and organisationally the party’s core. After the Dravidian movement, he became the public face of the movement and was one of the closest aides of M. Karunanidhi. He went about the job of social engineering and administration with great zeal and was instrumental in the transformation of the society and the state through the party.

He was elected to the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly and had the privilege of representing his constituents for several terms. During his association with the state government, he took the leadership of the cabinet in different departments, the Finance Ministry most notably. Here, he was in charge of preparing the budget, planning the state's finances, and managing the economy of Tamil Nadu.

Anbazhagan subsequently entered central parliamentary politics and won a Rajya Sabha seat as a representative of Tamil Nadu. There, he discussed bills and expressed the views of the DMK on the economy and centre-state relations.

He was a chief architect and senior leader of the DMK through the years, recognized for his uninterrupted policy and ideological firmness. He ended his political journey with the roles of advisor and leader to the party until his demise in ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌2020.
