Yashodhara Raje Scindia Biography

Born in London, Yashodhara Raje Scindia entered politics in 1998 as a member of the Bhartiya Janata Party. She is the daughter of Jivajirao Scindia, Maratha Maharaja of Gwalior, and the Late Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia of Gwalior. She studied at The Cathedral and John Connon School in Mumbai, then the Presentation Convent, Kodaikanal, and her final two years at the Scindia Kanya Vidyalaya, Gwalior. In 1977, she moved to New Orleans, USA, after tying the knot with Sidharth Bhansali, a cardiologist. The couple has three children, Akshay, Abhishek and Trishala. In 1994, she returned to India and formally entered into politics by contesting the Madhya Pradesh State Assembly Elections in 1998 as a BJP member.

With her art of leadership, she single-handedly raised a quarter of a million dollars for the Audubon Zoological Society. The funds were dedicated to a permanent Indian exhibit space at the Audubon Zoo.
