Dr Anirban Ganguly

Dr. Anirban Ganguly, a prominent figure in Indian politics and academia, currently serves as the Chairperson and Trustee of the Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee Research Foundation (SPMRF), a New Delhi-based think tank affiliated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He also holds key positions within the BJP, including membership in the National Executive Committee (NEC) and the Core Committee of the West Bengal State Unit.

Dr. Ganguly's academic pursuits reflect his deep engagement with India's history, politics, and culture. He is a distinguished scholar of civilization and history, with a particular focus on India's freedom movement and its early nationalist phase. His scholarly contributions encompass various aspects of public policy and political research.

In addition to his roles in academia and politics, Dr. Ganguly has been actively involved in several governmental and educational bodies. He has served as a Member of the Central Advisory Board of Education (CABE) and the Indian National Commission for Cooperation with UNESCO (INCCU), both under the Ministry of Education, Government of India. He has also contributed to the governance of institutions such as the Auroville Foundation and Visva-Bharati Samsad.

Dr. Ganguly's lineage is marked by a legacy of activism and literary eminence. His great-grandfather, Upendra Nath Bandyopadhyay, was a renowned revolutionary and associate of Sri Aurobindo during the early nationalist era. His grandfather, the esteemed poet Dinesh Gangopadhyay, maintained close associations with literary luminaries such as Kazi Nazrul Islam and Balai Chand Mukhopadhyay.

Born into this distinguished lineage, Dr. Ganguly received his early education at the Sri Aurobindo International Centre of Education in Puducherry. Proficient in multiple languages including English, French, Sanskrit, Bengali, Tamil, and Odiya, he pursued a diverse array of subjects including languages, philosophy, history, and music. His academic journey culminated in a Ph.D. in education from Jadavpur University, where his groundbreaking thesis explored Sri Aurobindo's philosophy in the context of nationalist education movements during India's struggle for independence.

Dr. Ganguly's professional trajectory took a significant turn during his college years when he became associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), a pivotal moment that steered him towards a career in public service and political activism. Subsequently, he worked extensively in the Northeast and West Bengal, contributing significantly to civilizational studies, governance, and politics as a Research Fellow at the Vivekananda International Foundation (VIF).

In 2013, Dr. Ganguly was appointed as the Director of SPMRF by the BJP, marking his official entry into the political arena. He played a crucial role in the party's electoral campaigns, spearheading initiatives such as 'Bengal for Modi – Modi for Bengal' during the 2019 general elections and leading the 'Lokkho Sonar Bangla' campaign ahead of the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections.

In 2021, Dr. Ganguly contested the West Bengal Assembly election as a BJP candidate from the Bolpur-Santiniketan constituency, securing an impressive second position with over 94,000 votes. His dedication and leadership have earned him the BJP's nomination to contest the Jadavpur Lok Sabha seat in the upcoming 2024 general election.

Beyond his political engagements, Dr. Ganguly is a prolific author, contributing numerous papers, chapters, and monographs on civilizational issues, politics, education, and culture. He is also a regular columnist, sharing his insights on a wide range of topics that shape India's socio-political landscape.
