Sajda Ahmed was born on June 22, 1962, in Uluberia, West Bengal. She pursued her education at the University of Calcutta and later became involved in social work and community welfare activities before formally entering electoral politics.
Her entry into active politics came after the passing of her husband, Sultan Ahmed, a prominent TMC leader and former Union Minister. In 2018, she contested the Uluberia Lok Sabha by-election and secured a decisive victory with a large margin, marking the beginning of her parliamentary career.
She consolidated her political position by winning again in the 2019 general elections, becoming a Member of the 17th Lok Sabha. In Parliament, she has focused on issues such as healthcare access, education, and the welfare of marginalized communities, reflecting her background in social work.
Apart from her parliamentary role, she has also been involved in institutional and social initiatives. Notably, she became the first woman president of the Calcutta Muslim Orphanage, highlighting her continued engagement in community development and charitable work.
As of 2026, she continues to serve as a Member of Parliament from Uluberia and remains an active political figure in West Bengal, contributing to both legislative work and grassroots-level development.
