S. Muthusamy

S. Muthusamy was born on 16 October 1948 in Nedungulam, Salem district, Tamil Nadu. The AIADMK party marked the beginning of his political journey, which resulted in his first electoral victory from Erode during the 1977 legislative assembly elections. The Chief Minister, M.G. Ramachandran, appointed him as Transport Minister during his first term in office, where he managed crucial infrastructure initiatives and developed state road and public transport systems.

He won elections to the assembly in both 1980 and 1984 because he maintained excellent support from his local community. He won the 1991 election from the Bhavani constituency, which led to his appointment as Health Minister, who worked to enhance healthcare services and public health initiatives throughout Tamil Nadu.

Muthusamy dedicated his life to the AIADMK until he joined the DMK in 2010, which demonstrated his dedication to public service more than his political party. He ran for office in both 2011 and 2016, but he finally won the Erode West seat in 2021 and got assigned to the Cabinet as the Minister of Housing and Urban Development. In 2023, he took charge of Prohibition and Excise responsibilities, which included leading projects for administrative improvement and regional development.

Muthusamy has built his career around a development-oriented work style, which has earned him recognition for his dedication to building infrastructure and improving public services and welfare programs in his district. He continues to operate as a senior Cabinet Minister from Erode West while he serves Tamil Nadu through his work in governing and creating policies as of 2026.
