The Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) has nominated Ramveer Singh Bidhuri to contest from the Badarpur constituency of South Delhi in the 18th Lok Sabha elections.
He was elected to the first Legislative Assembly of Delhi in 1993 and since then has been elected as a member of the Legislative Assembly four times. After being elected MLA for the fourth time in 2020, he was elected the leader of the BJP Legislature party and became the leader of the opposition with the status of a cabinet minister. He was also nominated as a member of the BJP's national executive in 2013.
Ramvir Singh Bidhuri's political journey spans several decades, initially aligned with the Indian National Congress (INC) since his beginnings as a student leader in 1967. Within the INC, he held various significant roles, notably as the General Secretary of the Delhi Pradesh Youth Congress and later as the General Secretary of the Kisan and Backward Classes cell of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) during the 1970s and 1980s.
However, Bidhuri's political affiliations evolved. He briefly served in the Haryana state government and later joined the Janata Dal, where he held the position of National General Secretary from 1991 to 1996. During his tenure with Janata Dal, he contested and won the Delhi Legislative Assembly elections in 1993 from the Badarpur segment.
Bidhuri then returned to the INC fold and contested the 1998 Assembly elections, finishing as the runner-up. His association with different parties continued, as he joined the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) before the 2003 Delhi elections, where he narrowly won against his previous rival, Ram Singh Netaji, who had since joined the INC.
In 2008, Bidhuri returned to the INC but faced defeat again in the Badarpur seat, this time against Ram Singh Netaji, who contested on the Bahujan Samaj Party's (BSP) ticket.
The political landscape shifted once more in 2013 when Bidhuri joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and achieved a significant victory over Ram Singh Netaji, who represented the INC in that election.
Although poised to serve a full term in the Assembly, his tenure was cut short by the imposition of President's rule in Delhi in early 2014, leading to the dissolution of the Assembly.
Ramvir Singh Bidhuri was born to the late Ram Phal Singh Bidhuri in the village of Tughlakabad, New Delhi on 4 December 1952. He married Rajeshwari and the couple is blessed with two sons.
Ramveer Singh Bidhuri's net worth is Rs 206622689.
