Biography
Parkash Singh Badal, original name Parkash Singh Dhillon, is an Indian politician and government official who rose to become president from 1996–2008 of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), a Sikh-focused regional political party in Punjab state. Badal was born into a family of landowning farmers in what is now western Punjab state and earned a B.A. degree from Forman Christian College in Lahore which is now in Pakistan. Parkash Singh Badal is also the patron of Akali Dal. He served as the president of the party from 1995 to 2008, only to be replaced by his son Sukhbir Singh Badal.

Badal elected as Chief Minister of Punjab for the first time when he became the youngest chief minister of an Indian state. During this period he headed a coalition government of Akali Dal (Sant) and Jana Sangh.
