Parimal Suklabaidya was born on 20 January 1958 in Irongmara village of Cachar district, Assam; his father is Profulla Suklabaidya. He completed his formal education up to graduation, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from Gauhati University in 1980. Before entering active politics, he was engaged in agriculture and small-scale business, which shaped his grassroots connect in rural Assam. He entered electoral politics in 1991, when he was first elected to the Assam Legislative Assembly from the Dholai constituency. Although he faced electoral setbacks in subsequent years, he remained politically active and returned to the Assembly through multiple victories, gradually establishing himself as a prominent leader in the Barak Valley region. Over the years, Suklabaidya served several terms as MLA and became part of the Assam cabinet after the formation of the BJP government in 2016. During his tenure as a state minister, he handled key departments including Fisheries, Excise, Environment & Forests, Public Works, and Transport, playing a role in infrastructure expansion and administrative governance. In the 2024 General Election, he contested and won the Silchar (SC) Lok Sabha seat as a Bharatiya Janata Party candidate, marking his transition from state to national politics. As of 2026, he serves as a Member of Parliament, focusing on parliamentary responsibilities, regional development, and connectivity issues affecting southern Assam.
