Intro- Murli Deora was an Indian politician belonging to the Congress party. He was amongst the Gandhi family loyalists who had friends across the political and corporate spectrum.
He served as the President of the Mumbai Regional Congress Committee for 22 years from 1981 to 2003.
He four times served as an MP and joined the federal government as petroleum minister in 2006.
At the age of 77, he died after a prolonged illness at his home in Mumbai in 2014. He is survived by his wife and two sons, including former MP and federal minister Milind Deora.
