Kummanam​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌ Rajasekharan is an experienced Indian political personality and a socio-cultural activist from Kottayam, Kerala. Having been a prominent face in the Sangh Parivar for a long time, he was the leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Kerala state unit from 2015 to 2018 and then held the office of the 14th Governor of Mizoram.

He has been recognised for mobilising the masses at the grassroots level for several decades, launching heritage protection projects, and being involved in religious-cultural activism. He is still very much active in public affairs. In addition, he is a member of the administrative committee of the Sree Padmanabha Swamy Temple in ​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌Thiruvananthapuram.

Kummanam Rajasekharan Biography

Kummanam​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌ Rajasekharan's entry point to this world was Kummanam village of Aymanam in Kottayam district, Kerala, where he was born on 23 December 1952. His parents were V. K. Ramakrishna Pillai and P. Parukkutty Amma. After finishing his school education in his native place, he went to CMS College, Kottayam, for his higher studies and got a B.Sc. degree in Botany. Subsequently, he earned a postgraduate diploma in Journalism and, after that, he underwent the training stage with several Malayalam periodicals.

He started his journey in the socio-political world in the seventies of the last century when he made an RSS activist out of himself and was accepted as a sangh-parivar network worker in the state. Along with his early activism, he worked as a journalist with Malayalam dailies, including Deepika, before joining the Food Corporation of India.

In 1979, he became the district secretary of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad in Kottayam, which was a major turning point in his career towards socio-religious work. After 1987, he chose to quit his government job and devote himself fully to social service work.

He is the one who has been the protagonist of the movements related to cultural heritage and temple-protection in Kerala through the years. Due to his excellent leadership skills, he was made the State President of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Kerala from 2015 to 2018. This was the time he became the most familiar person to the party in the state. From 2018 to 2019, he served as the Governor of Mizoram.

After completion of his term, he continued to perform his duties in religious, cultural, and administrative bodies and among them is his appointment in 2020 as the Central Government’s nominee on the administrative committee of the Sree Padmanabha Swamy Temple in ​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌Thiruvananthapuram.
