Kumar Sarvjeet came into this world on 3 April 1975 in Gaya, Bihar. He is a hereditary, politically inclined person; his father, Late Rajesh Kumar, was a Member of Parliament in the Lok Sabha. Sarvjeet had his initial schooling in Patna and later got a Bachelor of Engineering (Production Engineering) degree from Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, in 2001.
His only electoral journey was after his father’s death, when he took over the baton of political work in the Bodh Gaya area. In the 2009 Bodh Gaya by-election, Sarvjeet was elected on a Lok Janshakti Party ticket, wherein he created a legislative buzz for the first time. Unfortunately, he did not succeed in the 2010 Assembly election but remained politically active at the grassroots level and gradually rebuilt his support base.
After he was fabulously back to power from the Rashtriya Janata Dal ticket by winning the 2015 Bihar Assembly election from Bodh Gaya, he became the RJD and Gaya district's face of the year. In 2020, he was again elected, and his repeated successes culminated in him into a very influential core leader in the RJD camp. Sarvjeet always emphasised issues such as empowerment of Dalits, rural development, road connectivity, irrigation of villages, and skill development of youths.
He was appointed as Tourism Minister in the Bihar cabinet in August 2022, and he held this position till January 2024. He was very much into the expansion of the Bodh Gaya international Buddhist tourism through infrastructure and heritage development of pilgrimage. As of 2025, he is MLA from Bodh Gaya, and he will be there even after leaving the ministry.
