Karti Chidambaram was born on 16 November 1971 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, into a family involved in public service and national politics. He pursued his early education at Don Bosco School in Chennai before completing a Bachelor of Business Administration at the University of Texas at Austin and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from Wolfson College, Cambridge. His academic background in business and law laid the foundation for his later professional and political engagements.
After finishing his studies abroad, Chidambaram returned to Tamil Nadu, where he became active in politics and served in organisational roles within the Indian National Congress, including as an election manager in his home constituency of Sivaganga. Although his first parliamentary contest in 2014 did not result in a win, he maintained active involvement in the party and engaged with local communities.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha election, Chidambaram won the Sivaganga seat, succeeding in securing voter support and taking his place as a Member of Parliament. He was re‑elected in the 2024 general election, further affirming his role in national legislative affairs. Throughout his tenure, he has advocated on issues including commuter welfare and constituency interests, while also participating in broader policy discussions within the Congress parliamentary wing.
Beyond parliamentary duties, he has remained involved in social and community activities, including initiatives related to sports and youth engagement.
