Kaneez Fatima was born on August 21, 1959 in Hyderabad. Her husband, late Qamar-ul-Islam, was the minister and MLA from Gulbarga North constituency. She is also representing the same constituency as a part of the Indian National Congress party. For the unversed, Fatima initially refused to contest when Qamar-ul-Islam passed away. Later, she was persuaded by Siddaramaiah, Mallikarjun Kharge, G.Parameshwar, Priyank Kharge, Ajay Singh, ex-HKE President Basavaraj Bhimalli and many more. Finally, she won the assembly election against Nasir Hussain Ustad of JD(s) and Chandrakanth Patil of BJP by 5,940 votes. In the 2023 assembly election, she won again from the Gulbarga North constituency on an INC ticket.
