Roji M. John was born on 20 May 1984 in Thirumeni, Kannur district, Kerala. He pursued higher education at Sacred Heart College, Thevara, later studying at the University of Hyderabad and Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi. His political journey began through student activism and involvement with the Kerala Students Union (KSU).

In 2001, he was elected chairman of Sacred Heart College, Thevara, marking his early rise in student politics. He later became active in JNU politics, serving in various NSUI organisational roles, including JNU NSUI secretary in 2006 and vice president in 2008.

In 2009, Roji M. John was appointed a member of the Central Election Authority of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI). His growing prominence in student politics led to his appointment as National Vice President of NSUI in 2011, where he handled organisational elections and unit management across several states.

In 2014, he was elected National President of NSUI, becoming the first person chosen through the internal election process introduced by Rahul Gandhi. His tenure significantly increased his national-level visibility within the Congress party.

In 2016, Roji M. John was elected MLA from the Angamaly Assembly constituency, defeating veteran CPI(M) leader Jose Thettayil. He was re-elected in 2021, strengthening his political base in Ernakulam district through constituency development activities and organisational involvement within the Indian National Congress.

In 2022, he was appointed Secretary of the All India Congress Committee (AICC), expanding his role within the national party structure. Between 2022 and 2025, he continued active involvement in Kerala politics, youth engagement, and UDF campaign activities.

In the 2026 Kerala Assembly election, Roji M. John won the Angamaly constituency with 78,331 votes, securing victory by a margin of 37,008 votes and extending his legislative career.

On 18 May 2026, Roji M. John was sworn in as a Cabinet Minister in the new Kerala government following the UDF’s return to power.
