Kamakshipalya Gopalaiah is mostly popular as K. Gopalaiah, who is the former Minister of Excise of Karnataka from 21 January 2021 to May 13, 2023. In 2023, he got elected to the Karnataka Legislative Assembly from Mahalakshmi Layout by BJP. And prior to that, he won the assembly election from the same constituency by Janata Dal (Secular) party. Then in 2019, Gopalaiah joined the Bharatiya Janata Party and won the by-elections same year.
