Kirti Vardhan Singh, an eminent Indian politician and a top BJP leader from Uttar Pradesh, was born on 1st March 1966. He has been elected as the Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) for Gonda five times, and now he is holding the position of Union Minister of State. He is in charge of two Ministries, the External Affairs and Environment, Forest & Climate Change, in the Third Modi Government.

Kirti Vardhan Singh Biography

Kirti Vardhan Singh, also known as Raja Bhaiya, serves as a Member of Parliament representing the Gonda constituency in Uttar Pradesh. Born on March 1st, 1966, in Lucknow, he is the son of Uttar Pradesh Agricultural Minister, Anand Singh, and Veena Singh.

Graduating with an M.Sc from Lucknow University, Raja Bhaiya began his political career by winning his first Lok Sabha election in 1999 as a Samajwadi Party (SP) candidate from Gonda, defeating Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He continued to contest subsequent elections with varied results until he joined the BJP in 2014. Since then, he has been re-elected twice from the Gonda constituency, in 2014 and 2019 respectively, and is nominated once again by the ruling party for the 2024 general elections.

Beyond politics, Kirti Vardhan is an environmental activist known for his efforts against illegal sand mining in his constituency, resulting in significant fines for offenders and the cessation of the damaging activity. He is currently engaged in projects to restore local lakes and settle families of Van Tangiya labourers residing in forests.

His interests extend to conservation, rural development, and education promotion. In Gonda, where literacy rates are low, he has established educational institutions including a Girls Inter College and a Post Graduate College, combating educational malpractices and promoting quality education.

Outside of his political and social endeavours, he enjoys various activities such as reading, photography, painting, wildlife and eco-tourism, archery, water sports, and aero modelling. He has also established the Avadh Aero Sports Society to promote aero sports in rural areas, providing training opportunities for local youth and NCC cadets, including free access to fly ultra-light aircraft from an airstrip registered under the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Government of India.

He was involved in the Promotion of new techniques in agriculture and tree-plantation.
In 1988, Kirti Vardhan Singh spearheaded the pioneering pilot project of cage culture fish farming under the Ford Foundation, aiming to enhance the livelihoods of local fishermen. This groundbreaking initiative, the first of its kind in the country, focused on organising workshops for local fishermen cooperatives. These workshops provided essential updates on fish farming and breeding techniques, along with technical guidance on setting up fish breeding hatcheries, and fostering sustainable development in rural communities.
