Kerala's Sobha Surendran is a political leader and a member of Bharatiya Janata Party who has been actively taking part in state politics through both organisational and election functions. Her political career has been the result of connections with the party as well as through the constituencies from which she has been contesting elections in a repetitive manner.
She first took the step into the world of politics in 2006 when she ran for the Ponnani constituency but lost the election. In 2009, she again participated in a by-election in Ernakulam, which, though not elected, was her second and not the last step into the world of politics when she participated in the 2011 Kerala Assembly elections and lost to the CPI(M)’s C. Raveendranath in the Puthukkad constituency.
Garnering continuous support akin to strong campaigning methods raised her prospects in the 2014 general elections when she was nominated by the BJP from Palakkad, and subsequently was not successful in the seat. Next, she took a shot in the 2018 Wadakkancherry Assembly by-election, the outcome of which was also negative. However, in the 2021 Kerala Assembly elections, the BJP picked her as its candidate from Kazhakkootam, which was another major electoral push in her political journey.
Dynamically involved in electoral politics, Sobha Surendran also exerted her influence in the BJP’s organisational structure of Kerala, giving direct support in party campaigns through indirect means via public outreach. She is still part of the party and is, as of 2025, in continuous political and organisational activities in the state.
