A prolific member of the Nehru-Gandhi family, Feroze Varun Gandhi is presently a member of Parliament for Lok Sabha from the Sultanpur constituency. He was born to Sanjay Gandhi and Maneka Gandhi, a former Union minister and is the grandson of former Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi, and the great-grandson of India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru.
Progeny of political stalwarts, his induction into politics was an inevitable fare. He got his first taste in political affairs during his mother's campaign in the Philbit constituency in 1999. Previously part of NDA, Maneka Gandhi officially joined the BJP along with his son in 2004. Varun Gandhi campaigned for the party in the 2004 elections, covering over 40 constituencies.
In the 2009 general election, the BJP decided to field Varun Gandhi as its candidate from the Pilibhit constituency instead of his mother Maneka Gandhi, who had won five consecutive elections. He won the seat by defeating V.M. Singh and became the youngest-ever general secretary of the party in 2013. Gandhi began his campaign for the 2014 elections and then won by defeating Pawan Pandey of BSP from Sultanpur's seat.
He was re-elected to the Lok Sabha from the Pilibhit constituency in the 2019 general elections as a BJP candidate. But for the 2024 general elections, the BJP has decided to field Maneka Gandhi from the Sultanpur constituency, while Varun Gandhi has been substituted by Uttar Pradesh minister Jitin Prasada in the Pilibhit constituency.
Currently, he is a member of the Consultative Committee in the Ministry of Electronics and Information & Technology and Ministry of Communications.
As a social worker, he often organizes charity work to help people with disabilities, support widows and those in need with money, and especially tries to create job opportunities for young people and revitalize co-op businesses.
Besides his social work, he enjoys poetry, modern Indian art, philosophy, economics, world cinema, and jazz. He finds comfort in reading, traveling, and playing chess, tennis, and squash.
