Kiren Rijiju Biography

Kiren‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ Rijiju was born to Rinchin Kharu and Chirai Rijiju at Nakhu near Nafra in West Kameng district, Arunachal Pradesh. He belonged to a well-known family and had that kind of life which would naturally lead him to the public sphere, as his father was not only the first pro-tem Speaker of Arunachal Pradesh but was also the one who administered the oath to the Members of the first State Assembly. Rijiju was socially active even in his school years and was at the forefront of student and community movements, thereby shaping his destiny in public affairs. As an attorney, Rijiju moved to politics in his early years, and not long after, he became the most identifiable public face of the Northeast. At 29, he was a Member of the Khadi and Village Industries Commission from 2000 to 2005, when he turned into a firebrand speaker and got acquainted with many different global cultural and political scenarios. His voice is often compared to that of "the voice of North East India", which he maintained by writing articles on the security and socio-economic issues, while at the same time, he was a very vocal regional and national integration leader. It was in 2004, when he was chosen as the Arunachal West Lok Sabha constituency representative, that his parliamentary career took off—the constituency being the fourth-largest in India–he rapidly became one of the most conspicuous MPs of the 14th Lok Sabha. He decided to come back to the Parliament in 2014, and later on, he went on to win in 2019 and 2024 as well, making him the most significant face of the Bharatiya Janata Party in the area. He has been in charge of many essential positions during his long tenure, among others, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoS), Youth Affairs and Sports, Law and Justice, Earth Sciences, and, at present, Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs. Outside the realm of politics, Rijiju is very passionate about the arts and sports. He is a man of considerable historical, travelling, literary, classic film, and folk music interests, and he is also known for visiting less-known places and having conversations with various people groups. He was a great athlete in his younger days, and you name it. In badminton, football, or athletics, he was at the top of national-level events, and thereafter, he became the Vice President of the National Archery Association of India. In 2004, he linked hands with Joram Rina Rijiju, and they were blessed with two sons and three daughters. The net worth that he has declared is ₹4.94 ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌crore.
