Gautam Gambhir

Gautam Gambhir was born on 14 October 1981 in New Delhi. He developed an early interest in cricket and rose through domestic cricket structures, eventually representing the Delhi cricket team in national competitions. His consistent performances in domestic tournaments helped him secure a place in India’s national squad during the early 2000s.

Gambhir made his international debut for the India national cricket team in 2003 in a One Day International match. Over the next decade, he established himself as one of India’s leading opening batsmen across formats. He played crucial innings in major tournaments, including the 2007 ICC World Twenty20 and the 2011 Cricket World Cup, contributing significantly to India’s title victories.

Apart from international cricket, Gambhir was an important figure in domestic and franchise cricket. He represented Delhi in domestic cricket and captained the Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League, leading the team to championship wins in 2012 and 2014. His leadership and performances in both domestic and international cricket earned him recognition as one of India’s prominent cricketers during the period.

After retiring from international cricket in 2018, Gambhir entered public life through politics. In March 2019, he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party and contested the 2019 Indian general election from East Delhi Lok Sabha constituency, winning the seat by a significant margin. As a Member of Parliament, he participated in parliamentary debates and constituency development initiatives.

Following his parliamentary tenure, Gambhir continued to be involved in public affairs, sports commentary, and philanthropic initiatives through the Gautam Gambhir Foundation.

As of 2026, he remains a prominent public personality in India with continued engagement in sports administration, political activities, and social initiatives.
