Dr. G. Parameshwara is a top Indian National Congress (INC) leader from Karnataka with a rich experience of the political and public administration career. Presently, he is the Minister of Home Affairs (with the exception of Intelligence) in the cabinet of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah from May 20, 2023, onwards. He is a member of the Koratagere constituency in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly and has been widely regarded for his extensive career in politics, administrative experience, and academic background.

After a stint as the Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka, Parameshwara continues to wield influence at the state level and is still regarded as one of the most influential leaders of the Congress leadership in 2025.

Dr.​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌ G. Parameshwara is a long-serving politician, a notable educator, and a committed social worker from Karnataka. He is a Congress (INC) party man. Born on 6 August 1951 in Gollahalli, Tumakuru district, he accomplished a Ph.D. in Plant Physiology at Waite Agricultural Research Institute, University of Adelaide, Australia. Before he made a debut in politics, he was managing education through the Sri Siddhartha Education Society, a venture of his father, G. Gangadharaiah, which he had taken over professionally and actively.

Parameshwara joined politics with the INC in the late 1980s. In 1989, he was elected for the first time to the Karnataka Legislative Assembly from Madhugiri. Subsequently, he has been entrusted with various important ministries such as Higher Education, Home Affairs, and Parliamentary Affairs. In 2018, he was the Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka in H.D. Kumaraswamy’s coalition government.

Dr. Parameshwara is still the Home Minister (except Intelligence) and an MLA from Koratagere as of 2025. He is a very disciplined leader who pays particular attention to education and social welfare and has been a continuous voice of advocacy for open governance in ​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌Karnataka.

  • 2018 : On 31 July 2018, Dr. G. Parameshwara was appointed as District-in charge Minister of Bangalore Urban and Tumkur District.
  • 2018 : On 15 May 2018, Dr. G. Parameshwara was elected as MLA candidate from the Koratagere constitution. He took oath as the Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka.
