Hiphei is an active politician from Mizoram. He is the Speaker of Mizoram's lower house since 2013. He was elected from Palak seat in Saiha district defeating president of the Maraland Democratic Party (MDF) P Thawlla in the 40-member state assembly polls. He belongs to Indian National Congress and seven times winner of assembly polls.
