Derek O'Brien Biography

Derek O’Brien is affiliated with the All India Trinamool Congress party. He is the chief national spokesperson and leader of the Trinamool Congress Parliamentary party in the Rajya Sabha. Before starting the Parliamentary journey, Biren earned popularity as the quizmaster for the Bournvita Quiz Contest among other shows.
On the personal front, O’Brien was born into an Irish family who came to India in the early 1860s. He belongs to Kolkata and uses Bengali as his mother tongue. For the unversed, O’Brien's grandfather Amos O’Brien was the first Christian who served as the head of the Department of English at Banaras Hindu University and Ravenshaw College in Cuttack.
O’Brien is the son of the former managing director of Oxford University, Neil O'Brien and Joyce. His better half Tonuca Basu is practicing medicine in Brooklyn, New York. Before that, O'Brien was married to Rila Banerjee, and they have a daughter named Aanya.
