Chandira Priyanga Biography

C. Chandira Priyanga was born in 1989 in Karaikal, Puducherry, to M. Chandirakasu, a former minister in the Puducherry government. She completed her Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) from Annamalai University before entering full-time politics.

Priyanga began her political career as a member of the All India NR Congress (AINRC) and first won the Nedungadu reserved Assembly seat in 2016, marking her entry into the Puducherry Legislative Assembly. She built her political presence through constituency work and party organisation.

In the 2021 Assembly elections, Priyanga was re-elected from Nedungadu, defeating her main opponent with a decisive margin, affirming her legislative strength in the region.

Following her 2021 victory, she was inducted into the Puducherry cabinet led by Chief Minister N. Rangaswamy with portfolios including Transport, Housing, Labour & Employment, Scheduled Caste Welfare, Art & Culture, among others. She became one of the few women to serve as a minister in the union territory after several decades.

Priyanga resigned from her ministerial post in October 2023, citing challenges in her role, including political pressures and operational issues; the administration later accepted her resignation.

As of 2026, she continues as an MLA and active legislator in the Puducherry Assembly.
