C.S Puttaraju is a two-time sitting member of the legislative assembly. His first win in the assembly elections was recorded from Pandavapura constituency in 2004 and then from Melukote constituency in 2008. He's served the Legislative Assembly for two consecutive terms. He contested in 1999 assembly elections but in vain. He lost the seat to K.Kempegowda of INC who secured a 38.3% vote share. He was elected in the 16th Lok Sabha elections from Mandya constituency where he defeated the incumbent MP Ramya of INC.
