In the 2014 Indian General Election, C. S. Puttaraju defeated incumbent Indian National Congress candidate-film actress, Ramya by taking 5,24,370 votes and became a member of the 16th Lok Sabha representing Mandya in Karnataka. He was a two time MLA from Pandavapura constituency, Karnataka. (2004-2013). He again contested and won as MLA from the Melukote constituency in 2018. In the 2023 assembly election, Puttaraju contested but got defeated from the Melukote constituency.
