Biplab Kumar Deb is an Indian politician hailing from Tripura, who served as the former Chief Minister of the state. With a longstanding political career, he has held the position of state president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Tripura since January 7, 2016. Deb is widely recognised for his pivotal role in leading the BJP to a historic victory in the 2018 Legislative Assembly Election, effectively ending the 25-year rule of the Left Front government led by the Communist Party of India (Marxist).
Throughout his career, Deb has drawn inspiration from political figures such as Narendra Modi, whom he regards as his political guru. In fact, Modi personally identified Deb's potential during his tenure in Delhi and specifically endorsed his return to Tripura in 2014, recognising his qualities as a trained RSS worker.
Born to Hirudhan Deb and Mina Rani Deb in Udaipur, Gomati district, Tripura, Biplab Deb's upbringing was influenced by his family's journey as refugees from East Pakistan in 1971. Raised and educated in Tripura, he completed his graduation from Tripura University before relocating to New Delhi to join the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). After an absence of 15 years, he returned to Tripura, where he immersed himself in political activities.
Apart from his political endeavours, Deb has pursued writing, authoring the book "Aadhunik Tripura Ke Shilpkar" (Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya) in both Hindi and Bangla, showcasing his literary prowess. He is also a member of the Constitutions Club of India.
Deb's interests extend beyond his professional pursuits; he finds solace in reading and listening to music. Additionally, sports holds a special place in his heart.
