Bimal Bora was born on 28 March 1979 in Assam. He completed his Bachelor of Arts degree before entering active politics. Before contesting Assembly elections, he was associated with grassroots political mobilization in Upper Assam and built his political base within the Bharatiya Janata Party’s regional organizational structure.
He made his electoral debut in the 2016 Assam Legislative Assembly election, contesting from the Tingkhong constituency as a BJP candidate. The 2016 election marked a historic political shift in Assam, with the BJP forming the government for the first time in the state, and Bora’s victory established him as an emerging leader from Dibrugarh district.
During his first term (2016–2021), he functioned as a legislator representing Tingkhong and participated in Assembly proceedings, constituency development initiatives, and party organizational activities in Upper Assam.
In the 2021 Assam Assembly election, he was re-elected from Tingkhong, consolidating his political standing in the constituency. On 10 May 2021, he was sworn in as a Cabinet Minister in the Himanta Biswa Sarma-led government. Following his induction, he was entrusted with portfolios including Sports & Youth Welfare and Cultural Affairs, and has also been associated with departments such as Tourism and Power at different points during the government’s tenure.
As a minister, Bora has been involved in policy oversight related to youth engagement programs, sports infrastructure development, cultural promotion initiatives, tourism growth strategies, and power sector administration within Assam.
As of 2026, he continues serving as the elected MLA from Tingkhong and remains a Cabinet Minister in the Government of Assam, actively participating in legislative decision-making, administrative governance, and constituency-level development projects.
