Balappa Bhimappa Chimmanakatti is briefly called as B B Chimmanakatti. He is a leader of Indian National Congress. He has been the MLA of Badami constituency in the years 1978, 1983, 1994, 1999 and 2013 and 2023, respectively. Chimmanakatti is the founder of Shri Kalidasa educational society in Badami, Bagalkot district. In the 2023 assembly election, he bagged over 38.95 per cent of votes again BJP candidate Shanthagouda Patil from Badami constituency.
