Akhruzzaman

Akhruzzaman was born on 24 November 1964 in Kantakhali, West Bengal, to Habibur Rahaman and Jubada Bibi. He completed his formal education with a B.Sc. (1984), followed by LL.B. (1988) from the University of Calcutta and a B.Ed. (1989) from Jadavpur University, and trained professionally as an advocate, practising law before entering full-time politics.

He began his electoral journey in West Bengal politics by winning the Raghunathganj Assembly seat, first as a member of the Indian National Congress (INC) and later after joining the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) in 2018, marking his transition to the state’s dominant political force. Since 2011, he has maintained his seat in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly, reflecting enduring support in his constituency.

In the Government of West Bengal, Akhruzzaman was appointed Minister of State for Power after the 2021 Assembly elections. In this role, he works under the Power Minister to oversee energy policy and infrastructure development across the state, including coordination with distribution agencies and government energy initiatives.

He has also been active in regional issues beyond energy, including advocating improved border security measures for Murshidabad district, where he has called for fencing of unfenced stretches of the India–Bangladesh border to prevent unlawful crossings.

As of 2026, he remains an MLA and minister engaged in legislative action and constituency programmes.
