A. M. Ariff serves as MP for its first consecutive term representing Alappuzha constituency in Kerala since 2019. He is a part of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), and represented Aroor constituency three times in Kerala Legislative Assembly from 2006 to 2019. Interestingly, Ariff defeated the then-state Agriculture Minister K.R. Gouriamma during the 2006 elections.
Ariff started his political journey while he was studying as BSc degree student at Cherthala S.N.
College where he got appointed as College Union magazine editor and then as chairman of the union. Later on, Ariff held several positions in SFI as Cherthala area president, Alappuzha district secretary and
a state committee member of the student wing of the party. He also became a state committee member of DYFI, the youth wing of CPI(M).
