Mohammad Salim is one of the prominent politician in West Bengal. He had inculcated an ardent passion for politics at a very young age. During his years as a student at Maulana Azad College, he became an active member of the Students' Federation of India. He claims the Indian Emergency is the most significant event of his life as that propelled him to enter the political fray. He was elected to Rajya Sabha in 1991 where he served two terms and was elected again in 2001 from Entally. He contested and won the 2004 Lok Sabha elections from Calcutta North East constituency. He served one term as the MP of this constituency. However, he couldn't contrive the same success in 2009. Undeterred by the loss he went onto contest and win the 2014 elections from Raiganj constituency.
