M. B. Rajesh

M. B. Rajesh is an Indian politician and senior leader of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) from Kerala.

He currently serves as Minister for Local Self-Governments in the Kerala government and is known for his work in decentralised governance and public administration. He has also served as a Member of Parliament in the Lok Sabha.

M. B. Rajesh was born on March 12, 1971, in Palakkad district of Kerala. He became active in student politics through the Students’ Federation of India (SFI), which laid the foundation for his political career within the CPI(M).

He later rose through the ranks of the party and its youth wing, the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), gaining recognition as a strong organizational leader and public speaker within the party.

Rajesh entered national politics when he was elected to the Lok Sabha from Palakkad constituency in 2009. During his tenure, he actively participated in parliamentary debates and committees, representing CPI(M) at the national level.

He transitioned to state politics and was elected as a Member of the Kerala Legislative Assembly in 2021. He was subsequently appointed as Minister for Local Self-Governments in the government led by Pinarayi Vijayan, focusing on decentralisation and urban governance reforms.

He continues to play an active role in governance and party affairs in Kerala. As of April 2026, he is contesting in the Kerala Assembly elections from the Thrithala constituency, continuing his electoral presence in the state.
