G. Sudhakaran

G. Sudhakaran is a powerful CPM leader in Kerala and the Minister of Public Works and Registration in the Pinarayi Vijayan cabinet. His development work in Kerala through the Public Works Department has been highly praised. In V.S.Achuthanandan cabinet (2006-2011), G Sudhakaran handled the Devaswom and Co-operation departments
He has spearheaded many of the student movements, cashew workers 'struggles, NGOs and teachers' struggles. During the Emergency, he was jailed in Thiruvananthapuram Central Jail under MISA Act. Sudhakaran was an active politician when he was a student. He was the first state president of the SFI. This was in 1971. He has held various posts including SFI All India Vice President, Kerala Students Federation State Joint Secretary, early SFI Central Executive Committee Member, Trade Union Leader, CPM Member of the State Committee, State Secretariat Member, CITU Alappuzha District President, District Secretary of Agricultural Workers Union, State Treasurer and President and many more. He was a member of the Syndicate of the University of Kerala from 1984 to 1995.
He was elected to the Legislative Assembly from Kayamkulam in 1996, Ambalappuzha in 2006 and again in 2011 and 2016. He has been the Ambalapuzha MLA for ten years.
