G. Sudhakaran Biography

G. Sudhakaran was born on 22 November 1946 in Alappuzha. He became politically active at a young age through student and labour movements associated with the communist political tradition in Kerala. His early political involvement eventually led to his association with the Communist Party of India (Marxist), where he gradually rose within the party structure.

Sudhakaran’s political career developed through organisational roles and grassroots political work in Alappuzha district, an area known for strong left political influence. His work within the CPI(M) helped establish his reputation as a committed party worker and local political leader before entering electoral politics.

He entered the Kerala Legislative Assembly after winning the 1996 Kerala Legislative Assembly election from the Ambalappuzha Assembly constituency. This victory marked his emergence as a significant political representative of the constituency and strengthened the CPI(M)’s presence in the region.

After a period outside the Assembly, Sudhakaran returned to electoral success by winning the Ambalappuzha seat again in 2011, and he was subsequently re-elected in 2016. Following the 2016 election, he joined the cabinet led by Pinarayi Vijayan, serving as Minister for Public Works and Registration in the Kerala government from 2016 to 2021.

During his ministerial tenure, Sudhakaran oversaw infrastructure development and administrative work connected with the Public Works Department in Kerala. After completing his term, he did not contest the 2021 Kerala Assembly election.

As of 2026, he remains a senior leader within the CPI(M) and continues to be associated with political activities in Kerala.
