V. Abdurahiman was born on September 15, 1963, in Kerala. He entered politics through youth and community organizations affiliated with the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) and gradually rose through the party ranks. His early work focused on social development and community welfare, particularly in coastal and fishing communities.
Abdurahiman was first elected to the Kerala Legislative Assembly from the Tanur constituency and has been re-elected in subsequent terms, building a strong base in Malappuram district. His legislative work emphasizes fisheries policy, coastal infrastructure, and social welfare for marginalized populations, reflecting his focus on development-driven politics.
In 2021, he was appointed as Minister for Fisheries in the second Pinarayi Vijayan ministry. In this role, he oversees sustainable fisheries management, fisher welfare schemes, and coastal development programs. He has also worked to improve marketing, infrastructure, and income security for fishing communities across Kerala.
In the 2026 election, V. Abdurahiman contested as the Communist Party of India (Marxist) candidate and lost after polling 81,971 votes. He was defeated by Indian Union Muslim League candidate Kurukkoli Moideen, who secured a decisive victory with a margin of 24,137 votes.
