Sarbananda Sonowal has been the 14th chief minister of Assam. He is popularly known as a firebrand and dynamic youth politician, also regarded as a Jatiya Nayak of Assam, a title given by the AASU, the oldest student body of the state.
Sarbananda Sonowal was born to Jibeswar Sonowal and Dineswari Sonowal at Molokgaon in the Dibrugarh district on 31st October 1962.
He was elected to the lower house of the Indian parliament, Lok Sabha from the Lakhimpur constituency in Assam but he resigned from the post in 2016. He contested and won the 18th general elections from Dibrugarh on the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) ticket. Following this victory, he was inducted into the Modi 3.0 cabinet and was given the charge of Ministery of Ports, Shipping & Waterways.
Before joining the parliament, he was representing the Majuli constituency in Assam's state legislative assembly.
His special interest lies in interacting with the learned people to know important things in life and he also prefers to expand his friend circle. Apart from this, he enjoys games like cricket, football and badminton.
