Dr S. Ramadoss was born on 25 July 1939 in Keezhsiviri, Villupuram, in the Madras Presidency, to Navaneetham Ammal and Sanjeevi Rayar.

He is best known as the founder of the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), a party he led to prominence in Tamil Nadu's political landscape. Through his leadership, PMK gained notable influence in the state. He also established the Vanniyar Sangam, an organisation dedicated to advancing the welfare of the Vanniyar community.

Dr Ramadoss began his career as a doctor in Tindivanam but soon left his job to open small clinics, aiming to provide medical care to the underprivileged.
